I don't have forum backups (damn forumer).
We *COULD* be moving the forum, I don't know.

I mailed them and said that I wanted a db copy over a month ago, no response.
I even said that: I know you don't usally allow backups, but i am prepared to pay for it..
( maybe i should have told you guys this erlier, but i did it mostly as a "test" to see if they agreed )
If this forum is moving, it should do it as soon as possible, it's possible to make a php-script that saves everything by "scanning" the forum.
You never know, some day forumer may just dissapear and delete everything without a word..

Nothing so far can be done till Dex comes back.
I sent him a PM, he wants me to 'control' a new site call dex4uforum.com . But I don't want to, I would rather a subdomain or a /forum type thing.
I have had things planned for a few months now but so far I have only tried them on my little offline webserver that supports php.
Feel free to suggest something for the new forum.
At the moment I'm thinking phpBB. I 'could' use punBB (bit freaked out right now), or something else (I can't pay for vB).

I can start practise to "scan" forums by making a better mega-tokyo search
page, on my own server.. ;)

What do you mean by 'scan' forum? Like 'grab' posts, threads, etc?

hmmm... would it even require a php script? The entries and everything are saved to some kind of text file, right? Then a simple linux script to copy whatever the working directory of the server is should do just fine...

If you are talking about the forum database they are most likely using MySQL.
I can't use that on my site, I can only use flat file (text files) and maybe soon, SQLite (uses part of php to make a text database? weird).
Since we don't have access to the mysql getting this forum and putting somewhere would work (well?).
Forumer will NEVER give us mysql access.

It's in some sort of database, thats for sure. I was thinking of a php script that went through all pages on this forum and just saved the text, the author name, date etc to a file formatted in a SQL way that would make it possible to import in a new phpBB forum somewhere else.
It's a bit of work, but i bet that it would make alot of forumer users really happy.. :)
Only downside is that private messages wouldn't get saved.

If they want to keep pms then they will have to do it them selves.
Then if you have a lot you want to keep you might aswell clear you scedule (hmm... don't even have one).
So you think phpBB? That was my plan.
Do people want the 'xbox xtreme' skin?
Do people want the 'Karme hack' mod?
Do people want the 'Quick reply' mod?
Do people want the 'Attachment' mod?
What else? PM, post here, I'll have a look and hold onto it. Or if you want something but don't know what it is I'll look.
