Dex4u new web site
I have redone Dex4u web site, i have put links to members web sites, but if i have mist anyone, let me know and i will add your site. http://www.dex4u.com/

jas2o- 01-03-2006

The site looks great! My site is slowly 'dumping' some of the dex4u areas. I'm planning on having something to do with my DS. Check some of the mailing list links, on has a "to" infront of "dexos@....." Q: Can I join a Dex4u mailinglist ? A: Yes, To subscribe, send an email with a subject of 'subscribe' todexos-request@freelists.org Are you going to help with the mailing list? I only update it every now and then. So DOS EXTREAME was started in 1979? Jas2o

Thanks jas2o, i will fix that mistake and i hope to add a DS part to the web site as soon as i have time to do some DS homebrew. Yes you could say Dos extreme was born then, or at least the Creator

Hi, I already knew before you posted you had a new website. It looks better, it has more information than the previous, and hey cool; it also has my link on it. In short: much better than the old one. Keep up the good work! Only one thing: just DON'T use FrontPage Express 2.0. Frontpage sucks @ creating valid html pages. Instead, it uses "MSHTML" (as in, crappy code). Maybe it's time for learning HTML yourself ;-) (no, it isn't difficult.. am doing HTML myself (with PHP/MySQL of course) DennisCGc.

rofl, so you're 27 or so eh? The new site is quite nice, but I'm not really a "member", I just come to toy with DEX4U so I can learn ASSEMBLY! I have yet to get DOSbox compiled and such so I can use it (developing under Linux :D). It all looks nice, but now you need colour coding in your editor . That's beside the point though. Cheers, DH. ps. Do you have FASM ported yet, or would you like me to take a crack at it?

Dex- 01-04-2006

@DennisCGc, Your right about FrontPage and i do intend to learn HTML etc, but i am waiting, as i like to learn things from the ground up, with in the next 6 months i will be working on Dex4u TCP/IP stack code, from there i will work my way up. @Dragon_Hilord, The code for Tex4u will be available soon, so members can add things like syntax highlights, as if not i could spend 2 years on adding stuff to the editor alone. As for port fasm thats the next job on the todo list, but i thought it best to have a basic editor first. PS: Did you test editor on a real pc or are you going by screenshots ??.

The new site looks, good, but there is an inaccurate statement on it. Dex4u is based on the overall design, but not the code of the original v2os. This isn't quite true. For a while at least, Dex4u was in violation of the GPL, by distributing at least one file from the original V2_OS: http://v2os.v2.nl/phpbb/viewtopic.php?p=996#996 Even if Dex4u no longer contains any V2_OS code, it did for a while, as I quote from that article: i will take out any v2os code fonts etc. The fonts are standard fonts, its the logo part of the demo that is enclosed in the fonts, that is the only v2os code used, i will just change the logo for the next release. Even so, for a short time at least, Dex4u had GPL'd code in it, and (I watched this all unfold), never did make a public release of the GPL'd code as requested by one of the V2_OS dev's: One thing i must say is all members of the v2os forum who like yourself have taken a intrest in the new v2os, will have the code, i said its not for public release. but i do not like being demanded to do some thing. Ultimately this lead to this post: http://v2os.v2.nl/phpbb/viewtopic.php?t=170 Sorry if any of this is uncomfortable to fans of Dex4u; I just like to keep the actual record straight!

Nice site Dex. I've also finally upgraded my site. :) Solidus

-------------8<-----------------------8<---------------------------8<--------------- THE FOLLOWING DOES NOT SUPPORT THE ILLEAGLE DISTRIBUTION OF ANYTHING! woop-de-doooo. A little infrigement never killed nobody. Look at Mr. Gates. And the guys from the Homebrew Computer Club! Bill THREATENED them for copying his BASIC program (for the Altair 8800) with a letter. If you don't believe that nobody's perfect, watch Revolution OS (highly recommended). Even the GNU people aren't perfect! -------------8<-----------------------8<---------------------------8<--------------- I just tested it on DOSbox. I have no access to test hardware at the moment (and I'm a little iffy on testing it on my development computer. Acer didn't ship proper restore discs and no Window$ CD, so I can't just format everything. Not to mention my current requirement of Visual Basic :(). I did, however, manage to open a few DEX files with the editor, and was interested to see how damn small they are. That combined with the fact that I can't even see anything in them (no printable ASCII characters in the files?). rofl. It's still pretty cool. Keep up the good work, DH.

tonyMac- 01-05-2006

You should be able to see ASCII chars... Well, in any case, the site looks great, i'm at work... :?

Dex- 01-05-2006

@VoiceOfReason, The fonts you refer to were BIOS fonts with a number of fonts modified to make the V2OS logo. 1. i do not think its very legal to mod BIOS fonts and than release them under a different licence. 2. the demo never had any of those modded fonts in from v2os, even with the logo "v3os" they were all new, as we put them on one line and made them bigger. 3. we even released the code http://board.flatassembler.net/topic.php?t=2540 it has been downloaded 133. 4. We have never used any type of logo since leaving v2os and have used bios fonts (which the original v2os fonts started out as ). http://www.dex4u.com/help.htm 5. We sent the code to VP, it may be interesting to see if any code form v3os ends up in v2_os 0.70, maybe that what this is really about you have used v3os code and need a open licence . 6. On top of all that, the code you refer to was a OS called "v3os", we are a OS called "Dex4u". So thank for adding to our members numbers 8) and pop down for a chat when your forum is quiet, so we will expect to see you every day. PS: Glad you like the web site.

Dex- 01-05-2006

Thanks, glad you all like the new site, still a lot more work to do hope to add more doc, soon. @Dragon_Hilord, i have also open dex file in the editor, but i alway get any char in with garbage, also note there is a lot more in the dex files than shows, as number above or below a certain size's are ignored. @solidus117, like your update to your site, did not know your into cybernetic 8) . @tonyMac, I hope you got the job you wanted.

Dragon_Hilord- 01-05-2006

ahhhh. Also, you probably have some nulls in there. I have a hunch your tex4u editor stops when it hits one of them :P

Dex- 01-05-2006

It certainly should

Dragon_Hilord- 01-05-2006

Personally, I'd op to stop at the VERY end of the file and disregard all NULLS as perhaps the end of the line. This reminds me of MS-DOS' EDIT program :S. Bad times thoes were :S. But then again, who goes and reads a BINARY file with a sequential viewer... forget I asked. Cheers, DH.
