I don't think it matters that much if you choose a very "open" licence, if the os is successful and you'r still developing on it nobody will be able to keep up with your speed. so even if they wanted to "steal" the code and continue on it under another name the original dex4u would always be 2 steps ahead of them anyway. 8)

  , to be honest i do not mind what people do with it, its just a challenge, once i start something i like to finish, We set out as a team in the v2os forum, to code a OS like Dex4u and as a team, we have done it, we all played our part and are still a team, How many OS teams can say that 8) But is probably 10 years to late to be successful

i felt succesful with BOS the day i got my very first mail from someone that thought my os looked cool. finally someone that understood what my hours behind the screen did.. :)

What does the BSD licence "give"? Jas2o

IIRC it allows for greater freedom from anyone how wants the source. I think basicly said: "this is the work of *** use it for whatever, don't blame me, and do not remove this message." or sth.. :)

So it can be shared, but the original licence (with your name, company, year, etc) can't be tampered with? If so, then I have nothing to add. Jas2o

I noticed that 2 week after releasing Dex4u source code a certain 64bit OS as CD support, may me be i am just a sinnick  .

jas2o- 06-03-2006

And they didn't even let you know that they used your code? Is this a licencing problem (in some way)? Jas2o

I do not no for sure that they did use any of our code, as theres is closed source, but its funny that they never done it till 2 weeks, after we releasing our code. But if they have, it would be illegal as i stated that they could not use any of our code, thats why i was band the second time.

If I remember correctly, this certain 64-bit OS is notriously weak with their disk support, whereas we have done the opposite and made sure to have it early on...

Dex- 06-04-2006

I agree with you tonyMac, we went with less eyecandyand more disk support.

What works rather than what looks good. It makes it easier to look better in the long run, and have functionality to match the glamour. I do have to ask if we have anyone working on any Network stuff, since it would be great to net enable Dex4u, with Disk support, etc, we could make a killer server.

Dex- 06-05-2006

Yes if i am right DennisCGc is working on that, we also have someone working on C libs for Dex4u. But network is such a big thing that, it would be good to have more people working on differant parts. What do you think, would be the best thing to implement first, has far as network goes ?.

tonyMac- 06-05-2006

I think file sharing should be the first thing we do with the networking scheme. A browser is cool, but really we have little functional use for it, and it really should be its own project after the network interfaces and such are finished up. With file sharing, we could use a Dex4u box to store files with minimal overhead required of the machine, turn an obsolete computer into Network folder. As far as adapter to cover, the NE2000 is a card type that a majority of cards support or emulate, so it would be a safe bet for initial testing/developement. We need to be careful to keep all protocol code seperate from all network adapter code, so that implementing new cards is easier in the future.

Sound about right to me, after that, i would also like a simple type of Instant messaging for Dex4U users. Once i have finished bits and bobs to the kernel, i may look into doing some work on Dex4u networking. Are you thinking about starting some work on this ?.
