It would help if any members post there Ethernet card make, so a driver can be made for the commonest one..
Out of the 5 main computers we have, 3 use 3com USB to Ethernet adaptors. The other two have an Ethernet port as part of the mother board. One id's as a Realtek rtl8139. The other one simply says Fast Ethernet NIC.

Thanks for the info roboman, have you tryed DexOS rtl8139 driver on the Realtek rtl8139 one, its been up dated to work with clones .

Most of my hardware has Broadcom Ethernet controllers. (I own a lot of Dell stuff)

I'll try it this weekend. The router and cable modem both have a fire wall built into them (they block pings, requests, only answer to ports opened from this side and some are password locked), I'll see how things work out....

Here a list if you get time to try it.
If you have more than 1 PC on your network, you can put the ip address in a browser from anothe PC, that the dhcp allocated.
if you have a wireless router, you can do the same as above from a wireless laptop etc (DexOS will need to be on the none wireless PC ).
Or you can use the loopback part of the stack without any rtl8139 card and talk to other programs that are lisning on that port on the same PC(but you will need to write socket code).
To use DexOS as a http Server you would need to port forward port 80 to that IP, to use it from the internet.

I'm not sure there is any thing on my lan that will dynamicly assign an address. All the computers have an assigned address, the router has a list of ok addresses to answer, and on the other side of the routers fire wall the router gets a dynamic address from my ISP, so it looks like I only have one computer online, to my isp. There is no real server on this side of the routers firewall, just win96se, me and xp.
On a good note, it did say card found and setup.

Thanks for the info, roboman.
Regards Dex.
Note: If you ever needed to, you can set ip auto or manually.

I have rtl8029, rtl8139, pcnet32 (amd), intel eepro 100, 3com 900b, 3com 905c, mtd803 and some el-cheapo gigabit nic of wich i dont remember the brand.
(I also have a couple of ISA nic's if it matters)

Cool hidnplayr, if you get time maybe you could port some of menuet drivers to DexOS.
As i do not have any cards other then the rtl8139 to test and port to.
Regards Dex.

Sound about right to me, after that, i would also like a simple type of Instant messaging for Dex4U users. Sounds like a good Idea and it would be fun. :) I have a Broadcom Ethernet controller on my ThinkPad.
tonyMac- 06-14-2008
OK, the laptop I'm currently on has the following card:
Broadcom NetXtreme 57xx gigabit controller.
Vendor ID: 14e4
Dev ID: 1677

Its very hard to get datasheets for Broadcom, so if you find any let me know.
Yes a special IM would be a nice add on to DexOS and make a interesting project, i think i would also write a windows and linux ver, just in case they did not have the right network card.
hidnplayr- 06-16-2008
If we can write a good irc client, we can also use it for IM by using bitlbee (www.bitlbee.org)
I'm using it on a daily basis, and it works like a charm. Making this work on dex4u would be totally oldskool :D
As for the drivers: i was planning to work on it, but i'm not promissing anything yet ;)
6 exams left, and the first of that will start in a hour and a half :)

Thanks hidnplayr and yes school and work, comes before play ;) .
