Thank jas2o :) .
I will take a look at the 'j' letter and will start a new topic in the programing section, when i have finished a IR record program.

Got a old furby from ebay, as you suggested jas2o. i got it today still with box.
I will do some work with it, when i have finished fasm port, i am thinking about a IR furby program with internet connection, so we will have furby talking to one another across the world 8).

Wouldn't that be called tunneling?
IR Tunneling.... Interesting if Dex4u can use a modem.
See if you can get 'j' to work on that furby.

I will give the "j" a try.

Anything on the IR hacking? What happened to the IR recorder?

Here is the program:
http://www.dex4u.com/uploads/ir3.dex
I have not had time to work on it since, i am working on a module interface for Dex4u.
As the program stands, run it in Dex4u, point a remote control at your IR on your laptop and press a key, also hold any key down other than Esc on the keyboard and you should see a patent made with letters, one letter will be the 0 and the other the 1, you should get differant patents on each button.
When i have time i will make it display as a graph and record and playback.

That's really neat. Now here's a question; will you be able to implement "complex" IR interfaces like the one palm uses? That would make DEX4U's practacality and desire to be used jump by one point (one is not much, but look at Windoze... it's losing 50 a day ).
Cheers, DH.

I can make a program that can send/receive file etc, from other devices, if that what you mean, but you will need a external IR for use to control TV etc.
As the built in hardware in laptop is differant from external IR and is designed to transfer files.

I can't seem to get it working, it might have something to do with me not using the latest Dex4u, I'll download one...
How do I use ir3.dex?
I tried pointing a remote at it, nothing happens.
It doesn't blink, pressing keys makes 'p's on the screen.

Yes if "P" come when you press any key, then it works, you should get something like
"p ppp p" and if you press a different key on the remote, maybe "ppp_ _p", thats the binary patant.
The space is the 0 and the P the 1. You press a key on the remote control, with it pointing at the IR and than press any (other than esc ) on the keyboard until the letters stop being printed.
With some remote controls you may get """" " " or "G GG GG" .
Let me know if you get differant 'P' patants, with differant remote keys pressed.

IrDA is a layer on top of the IR module itself, are you sure you can't hack it to control appliances? The port on a pocket PC is also IrDA, and I use mine with a program to run my TV

My thoughts on IR are 95% based on net info, so i can not be 100% shore, but its from reading stuff like this http://www.remotecentral.com/cgi-bin/mboard/rc-pcremote/thread.cgi?71
So if you have differant info, that great news, as i have 5 laptops with built IR to play with :) .
jas2o- 01-28-2006
I tried it again, I held down a key and pressed on the remote, a bunch of characters appear.
Different remotes have different characters.
Can you make it so pressing ENTER repeats the last (or something)?

I will make it record the input and it playback, also display it in graphic way.
When i have time for this project.
