Just for fun
As a break, from the editor project, which will restart just after Xmas, jas2o has got me on to experimenting with IR after a slow start, i am making some progress :) . I have bean able to record input from IR remote controls and have also bean able to send packets, from with in Dex4u OS. It seems alot of IR product are not compatable with the hardware in laptops, including my Robosapiem , Furby seem ok, but i do not have one, but will try and catch one  , If i do, i will make a IR demo program and maybe a file transfer program, as these are the sort of projects that Dex4u is design for. If you think IR projects are of little use, take a look at this http://www.wired.com/news/privacy/0,1848,68370,00.html Make you think .

That article is interesting... Good luck catching a little bugger. Words of warning: THEY NEVER SHUTUP (not entilely true) I'd just want to use infrared to change tv and muck around with furby and control PC with remote. What are you testing with? A circuit (that goes to a com port) or a inbuilt infared? Jas2o

Thanks to that link you gave me :) , i have all 5 laptops working with the inbuilt IR. Heres the basics for furby control, we need to send them 9bit packets The first bit is always 1 the next 4 bits are the control bits, these are the only bits that control the furby, the next 4 bits are the control bits inverted (eg: 1111 will be 0000), Now you do not send then as 0 or 1, but as 0xef = 1 and 0xff = 0, so to send the packet : 111110000, we send 0xef, 0xef, 0xef, 0xef, 0xef, 0xff, 0xff, 0xff, 0xff We need to send these same packets 6 times with a 80ms delay in between. As theres only 4 bit for control, there are only 16 differant commends. As for TV etc, if we can record the input from the remote control, we should be able to play it back and control most things hardware permitting 8) . As soon as i have a test program for furby, i will post for you to test.

What link? If inbuilt IR is working on you laptops (and the prog is 'useable') I wouldn't mind trying it. Just got to get my laptop's floppy work. I've managed to get a GRUB boot floppy to work fine. Now I'll work on getting Dex4u working. Has dex.zip been updated with the new kernel32 yet? Do you plan on 'renewing' the GUI screenshot? I just had to restore XP as when 98 did somethign it lost XPs boot info. It means XP will have to be reinstalled when I put 98se (unless you can think of a way to protect XPs boot code?). Jas2o

I am still working on the furby code, as soon as i have a test prog i will upload it, for you to test. I will be updating my site sometime over Xmas, along with new gui screenshots etc. As for laptops floppy drives, they never seem to work as good as PC floppy, but i find that it important that you use a good floppy disk, as some are good and others are not, try using a good old disket. Have no idea about XP :( .

Here is the Dex4u furby test program, i do not know if it works, has i have no old furbys to test it on, new furbys do not have IR :( . The code is based on how it should work. you can choose the com port 1-4, with keys 1-4, ( it default to com3,) A-P are for furby commands, esc to exit. http://www.dex4u.com/Furby4u.zip PS: I am making a IR recorder and playback, this will let more people test it, i will upload as soon as i have a test ver.

jas2o- 12-26-2005

I cann't test it as my laptop won't accept any Dex4u floppys (they ALL don't work). Jas2o

Dex- 12-26-2005

Why does it not boot Dex4u disks ?, does it boot dos disks ?, as you can boot dex4u from a 98 start up disk. What error do you get ?.

jas2o- 12-26-2005

I think it is the floppy drive, but the floppies could be damaged. I always get RE so it must be the floppies. I can't test DOS floppies right now, playing mario kart :) Did you find the friend code? Jas2o

Dex- 12-26-2005

No , i can not find where to get my ID, it just say about adding a friend code and a place to type numbers. Maybe theres bad sectors, have you tryed formating them.

jas2o- 12-26-2005

You can't find it? Goto Nintendo WFC Then to Friend Code Then to Comfirm Friend Code Your code is listed on the top screen. Go back Goto Register Friend Code Type my code I PMed you there. That work? I'll try playing around with the disks again later, I'm still doing a GP in MarioKart. Jas2o

Ok, I made a bootable CD myself. It half worked. By 'half' I mean It has dir problems (eg: only shows furby.d OR messy characters appeared). I got into Tex4u but it only reads floppy, so I poped in a floppy that was working and it didn't work. So it is the laptops drive as the whitebox picks it up fine. COM3 which my IRDA works fine to mess around with furby. I couldn't get 'L' to do anything, some commands are repeats. Maybe you could find a furby on eBay? There is a whole catagory for them. the only problem with that is it may not work, it could spell funny, it could be spanish (or other language) etc. I never noticed the DEL command, how long has it been there? Jas2o

So it works 8). Floppy disks make a big differanc, as i just got some new floppy and they are s**t, even linux, xp keep give errors, they do not make them like they used too  . Is your laptop not got a removeable floppy/cd, as you can not change them, unless you reboot. PS: In the "furby4u" prog, write what each letter does, so i can put it in the program, thanks :) .

jas2o- 12-27-2005

New floppys are bad aren't they :( My laptop is removed but the floppy/cd have their own 'ports'. So there is no need to change them. I will get to that soon. Could do it now since I might not be on NWFC. Jas2o

A separate topic for Furby4u (or IR Hacking) should be made in the Dex4u Programming area. Here are my results: A - Hello Message B - Sneeze C - Hello Message D - Hide E - Hello Message F - Joke G - Dance H - Feel Sleepy I - Hello Message J - <NOTHING?> K - Party L - Hide M - Hello Message N - Hide O - Dance P - Goto Sleep Does J have a correct packet send? Furby is unable to do testing until it's batteries get charged. Jas2o
