I tried QEMU with a real floppy ( -fda //./a: ) and it says it is not ready. Images seem to work fine. Jas2o

The only thing that has changed on the floppy side is i do not call these call FddReSet call FddRecalibrate Before read/write, i used to, maybe some emulators need this ??. I will add them back and post back, so you can see if it makes a difference.

It could be that they are needed for some, MS VirtualPC doesn't care, it works just fine. In fact, I've read/written created files on the floppy under VPC and read them in Windows, no problems at all.
