Wikipedia Article
I am starting a new Wikipedia article for DexOS which can be found here. Feel free to add information with references or make corrections. Since it was deleted, we have to show that DexOS is notable. We will probably have to find more references from "third party sources" which are websites that are not affiliated with DexOS (Sorry this is a Wikipedia rule). Old article - We can't just copy and paste this version because it was deleted. (Sorry another Wikipedia rule :( ) English article French article Thanks :D

I have restored the article. It can be found here. What kind of kernel does it have?

Dex- 06-08-2008

Thanks, if i put DexOS into a type i would say "monolithic". One thing that i think is very important is to get away from the DOS, it puts to many people off the OS. I think we need to use the word Game console OS, take out anything to do with Dos, and replace it with "Game console OS" also add the fact that DexOS has a full TCP/IP stack. So maybe we should take the "Dos Extreme part" out and maybe add that its single tasking, but multi-threading. Also maybe this screenshot http://dex4u.com/guiindex.PNG another link http://octavio.vega.fernandez.googlepages.com/octaos http://idb.programmer.net.ru/?N=A Iknow you may think i should just add it, but when i do it never goes right, me and wikis do not mix. Thanks again Dex.

I made some of the changes Dex suggested. Please edit and add to it since i probably made mistakes. Could someone add the information about the TCP/IP stack? (since I'm not familiar with it :? ). Should I remove "DOS extreme"?

Dex- 06-10-2008

Yes i would take the Dos Extreme out, i will post a write up late so you can take the bits you think are suitable.

I just updated it.

Great job rCX and that looks fine :). In the beginning all the founding members of Team DexOS where v2_os fans, we tryed to get the mods on the v2_os forum to move back to old ver as the new rewrite was a failure, but we were having a hard time make them see our point, as at that time and since no work had been add to the kernel in 4 years. So we decide to code our own OS based on the old v2-os design, but rewrite it from scrach, thats how DexOS came about. We rewitten it in fasm and not one line of code is the same. That the basic history of the start of DexOS. For those who have not seen v2_os its here: http://v2os.v2.nl/old/ http://v2os.v2.nl/phpbb/index.php

8) Here's a translation of the French article in case anyone is interested. From their forum it seems like V2_OS i's dead. What exactly is retroforth?

roboman- 06-12-2008

Forth is a programming language. I never played with it much, so can't say a lot about it. Retroforth is a smallish ver of forth. From what little I know it has some of the newer functionality mixed with making it compact and not complex. Don't know much and don't have room to cram more in my head right now :)

Dex- 06-13-2008

Too add to what roboman as put, retroforth is a type of forth, it was made by one of our founding members CRC, the big problem was he type to port retroforth when DexOS was at a very early stage of development, which did not work out good, as we where change things around a lot, as new stuff was being added. I think he started porting before we even had a floppy driver. Theres also been some great work on a port of Reda4 forth by redaman http://www.geocities.com/redaforth/ I will try and find the port and post it.

What does the stub mean on the wiki, is it too short ?. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DexOS

rCX- 06-16-2008

Shorter articles are marked as stubs to encourage Wikipedians to add more information to them. This puts them in an OS stub category so that it's easier for people interested in operating systems to find them.

Right, thanks for the info.
